Boğaziçi Electricity Distribution Inc. was established under Law No. 1312 dated July 15, 1970, as part of the Turkish Electricity Authority. Following its publication in the Official Gazette, it continued its operations under the name Boğaziçi Electricity Distribution Enterprise, affiliated with the Turkish Electricity Authority, serving Istanbul as its center along with Marmara Region provinces such as Edirne and Kırklareli. In 1989, the organization’s name was changed to Istanbul Electricity Enterprise, and its operations were limited solely to the province of Istanbul. Today, it is known as BEDAŞ.
